Iceotope was founded in 2005 to develop the concepts of liquid immersion cooling for more efficient server computing.

Liquid cooling had historically been used in some supercomputers, mainframes and, more recently, in some high-end gaming computers and workstations. Typically this has been done to improve the processing performance of the system – enabling greater performance to be delivered within a given system design than air cooling would have allowed – rather than the Iceotope focus of delivering greater operating efficiency.

Following a seed round of venture capital investment in early 2008 the company has developed solutions for the modern, high density, free-cooled data centre.

The company holds a granted US patent in the area of modular liquid immersion cooling and has several US and worldwide patents pending in the area of “end to end” liquid cooling for data centres.

The company licenses its technology to IT equipment and data centre infrastructure manufacturers.
